Who it fits
Good fit for
You should consider this system if you want a complete karaoke solution without complex wiring. The built-in speaker and touchscreen make it ideal for family game nights or birthday parties. If you enjoy streaming music from Spotify or YouTube and want to sing along, this unit fits your needs. The HDMI output is useful if you prefer larger screens for lyrics. It suits users who value easy setup and immediate access to a large song library through the pre-installed app.
Who should skip it
You should look elsewhere if you need a dedicated professional DJ controller. This unit is a karaoke player, not a mixing device. It lacks advanced audio routing options for multiple sources. If you require a portable system that fits in a backpack, the 5.51-pound weight and 6.57-inch height may be too bulky. Additionally, the HDMI cable is sold separately, so you must account for that extra purchase. It is not designed for high-volume club environments.
Verdict: The Singing Machine ISM9022 is a solid choice for home karaoke enthusiasts who want an easy, all-in-one setup. It delivers strong sound and convenient app integration for casual singers and families.
Key specs explained for ISM9022
Built-in HD touchscreen
This display lets you browse song libraries and queue tracks without needing a separate tablet or smartphone. You control the interface directly on the unit. This simplifies setup for family gatherings. Unlike DJ controllers that require external screens, this system integrates control and output into one compact device, making it ideal for casual home use.
WiFi connectivity
Wireless internet access allows the machine to stream licensed karaoke songs from the pre-installed app. You can browse and queue tracks instantly. This removes the need for physical media. For DJ gear, WiFi often supports firmware updates or cloud integration. Here, it enables direct access to a vast digital song catalog for immediate playback.
Bluetooth streaming
You can wirelessly play music from your phone or tablet through the machine’s speaker. This lets you sing along to any playlist on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube. It adds flexibility beyond the built-in app. In DJ equipment, Bluetooth is common for monitoring. Here, it expands your music source options for parties and home entertainment.
HDMI output
This port connects the machine to a television for larger lyric and video display. The audio remains on the built-in speaker. You need to supply the HDMI cable. This setup is useful for larger rooms. Unlike DJ controllers with video out for cueing, this feature focuses on sharing karaoke visuals with a wider audience for group participation.
Two wireless microphones
The system includes two mics for duets or shared singing sessions. They connect wirelessly to the unit. This allows multiple people to perform simultaneously. In DJ gear, mics are often for MCing. Here, they are central to the karaoke experience, providing vocal input with echo effects for a complete performance setup at home.
Design and build specs
According to the listing, the Singing Machine ISM9022 measures 5.12 inches in width, 6.18 inches in length, and 6.57 inches in height. The unit weighs 5.51 pounds. These dimensions make it a compact desktop device. You can place it on a table or shelf without taking up much space. The weight suggests it is stable enough for typical indoor use, yet light enough to move between rooms if needed.
The finish is available in white or black. The listing notes two height variations, with this model standing at 6.57 inches. This vertical profile supports the built-in HD touchscreen. The screen is central to the layout, allowing you to browse song libraries and queue tracks directly on the unit. You do not need a separate tablet or smartphone to control the interface. This design simplifies setup for family gatherings.
The system includes two wireless microphones. These are stored with the unit during operation. The powerful high-quality speaker is integrated into the chassis. This all-in-one approach reduces cable clutter. You get room-filling sound without external audio gear. The compact footprint and integrated controls make it suitable for home entertainment spaces where simplicity matters. You can set it up quickly for parties or quiet evenings.
Setup and everyday use guide
The Singing Machine ISM9022 prioritizes a streamlined initial configuration. You begin by connecting the unit to your local Wi-Fi network. This wireless link is essential for accessing the pre-installed Singing Machine Karaoke App. The listing notes that this app provides immediate access to thousands of licensed karaoke songs. You can browse and queue tracks directly from the touchscreen interface. A one-month free trial is included on eligible subscription plans, which allows you to test the library without immediate commitment. For daily operation, the system relies on this digital connection. You do not need to manage physical media for standard playback. The touchscreen serves as your primary control panel. You select songs, adjust settings, and manage the queue on the 6.57-inch high unit. If you prefer external audio sources, you can stream music via Bluetooth. This feature works with popular apps like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. You can sing along to existing playlists or use the built-in speaker for your own tracks. For larger gatherings, you can connect the machine to a television using an HDMI cable. This cable is not included. The HDMI output displays lyrics and videos on a larger screen while the built-in speaker handles the audio. You can also record performances to a USB drive. This feature lets you save your sessions locally. The system includes two wireless microphones for duets or group singing. You adjust vocal effects and echo control through the interface. The setup process is designed to be quick. You go from box to singing in minutes. The compact dimensions of 5.12 by 6.18 inches allow it to fit on most surfaces. This makes it easy to store when not in use. The white or black finish blends into home decor. You get a complete karaoke experience without complex wiring or external hardware.
Before You Buy This System
You should verify your home network stability before relying on Wi-Fi for streaming. The system requires an active connection to access the pre-installed karaoke app and licensed song library. A one-month free trial is included, but you must check subscription eligibility for ongoing access. Since the HDMI cable is sold separately, you need to purchase one if you plan to mirror lyrics to a larger television. This adds to the initial setup cost and complexity. You also need to ensure your smartphone or tablet supports Bluetooth streaming for external music apps like Spotify or YouTube. The unit weighs 5.51 pounds, so you need a stable surface to prevent tipping. This device is not a DJ controller. It lacks the performance faders and jog wheels required for mixing tracks. It is designed for singing along, not for beatmatching or live mixing. You should keep the microphones charged and store them safely to prevent damage.
Check before you buy
- Confirm your Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable for app access.
- Purchase an HDMI cable if you want to display lyrics on TV.
- Ensure your smartphone supports Bluetooth for streaming external music apps.
