Is a 15-Inch Woofer Worth It for Your Setup?

However, these units are heavier and bulkier. The Mackie Thump15v4 weighs 38 pounds, while passive pairs can exceed 180 pounds. This size prioritizes raw power and coverage over easy transport. It suits fixed installations or professional touring where sound quality outweighs portability.
Worth it if

- You need even coverage for weddings or professional events
- You already have amplifiers for passive 15-inch speaker systems
Skip it if

- You play in small clubs where 12-inch speakers suffice
- You need a self-contained unit without separate amplifiers
