The range includes wireless 2.4GHz options for flexible setups and wired DMX controllers for reliable connections. However, the list lacks dedicated DJ lighting consoles or software-integrated hubs. Key Specs for Choosing Chauvet Lights
-
Check Channel Capacity
Your fixture count determines the controller size you need. The DMX-4 Dimmer Pack handles four channels for precise dimming. If you manage up to eight fixtures, the Obey 10 Compact offers detailed chase programming. For complex arrays with higher channel counts, the Obey40 or Obey 70 provides extensive storage and control. Match your maximum fixture number to the controller's limit to ensure smooth operation without bottlenecks during your show.
-
Select Wired or Wireless
Wired DMX connections offer reliable stability for stationary setups. The Obey40 and Obey 70 are wired controllers suited for venues where cable management is not a concern. If you need flexibility, the Obey40 D-Fi 2.4 Wireless Controller uses 2.4GHz transmission for up to 12 lights. This option is ideal for venues where running cables is difficult. Choose wireless for mobility and wired for consistent, uninterrupted signal integrity during performances.
-
Consider Physical Dimensions
Size affects portability and stage footprint. The DMX-4 Dimmer Pack is compact at 2.75 inches wide. The Obey6 is slim at 1.9 inches high, fitting small LED setups. Larger units like the Obey 70 are 9.06 inches wide and heavier. The GigBAR 2 is a substantial 57-inch bar. Measure your transport cases and stage space. Smaller controllers fit easily in bags, while larger systems may require dedicated mounting or larger transport solutions for safe travel.
-
Match Intended Use
Different models serve specific event types. The GigBAR 2 includes derby, wash, laser, and strobe effects, making it suitable for parties and weddings. It also includes speaker stands for added versatility. The Obey6 is designed for simple, wired control of six LED units. The Obey 70 targets professionals managing large intelligent light arrays. Identify your primary environment. A party host needs integrated effects, while a club DJ needs precise channel control for complex lighting cues.
-
Evaluate Weight Limits
Weight impacts how you transport and mount your gear. The DMX-4 Dimmer Pack weighs 5 pounds. The Obey6 is lighter at 3.8 pounds. The Obey 10 Compact weighs 4 pounds. The Obey40 D-Fi weighs 5.7 pounds. The GigBAR 2 is the heaviest at 14.4 pounds. Consider your lifting capacity and rigging requirements. Heavier units like the GigBAR 2 need sturdy stands or mounts. Lighter controllers are easier to carry between venues without additional support equipment.
