Allen & Heath vs Gator Gear
Primary Function
The Allen & Heath CQ-18T is a digital audio mixer designed to process sound. It features 16 mic or line inputs, including eight combi jacks, plus a stereo line input. This allows you to connect multiple microphones and instruments. In contrast, the Gator G-Club is not a mixer at all. It is a messenger bag designed to hold laptop-based DJ MIDI controllers, laptops, and headphones. It provides protection rather than audio processing. One unit controls your audio signal, while the other carries your gear.
Connectivity Options
The Allen & Heath CQ-18T offers extensive digital connectivity. It includes built-in 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, along with stereo Bluetooth input. It also serves as a 24x22 USB audio interface, allowing direct connection to computers. You can record and playback via SD card using the same 24x22 format. The Gator G-Club has no electronic connectivity. It is a passive carrying case. It relies on physical straps and buckles for closure. If you need wireless control or digital audio transfer, only the mixer provides these features.
Physical Dimensions
Size comparison reveals vastly different footprints. The Allen & Heath CQ-18T measures 16.9 inches in length, 12.2 inches in width, and 7.9 inches in height. It weighs 10.3 pounds, making it a substantial piece of equipment to set up. The Gator G-Club is larger in overall volume but lighter. User Interface
Control methods differ significantly between the two products. The Allen & Heath CQ-18T features a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen. It includes associated rotary controls, three custom SoftKeys, and three custom SoftRotaries. This interface allows for precise mixing adjustments and effect management. The Gator G-Club has no user interface. It is a storage solution. It features an ergonomic handle and a padded shoulder strap for carrying. There are no buttons, screens, or knobs on the bag itself. You interact with the mixer to change sound, not the bag.
Built-in Effects
Audio processing capabilities are exclusive to the mixer. The Allen & Heath CQ-18T includes four separate FX engines. These allow you to apply effects to your audio channels directly on the device. The Gator G-Club has no audio processing capabilities. It is a protective case made of rugged nylon with thick padding. It includes a bright orange interior liner for visibility.
